Almost 16,000 people have signed a petition calling on the federal government to abandon legislation banning gambling on overseas lotteries.

Gibraltar-based company Lottoland is fighting for survival in Australia after the Turnbull government announced plans to ban its product, known as “synthetic lotteries”.

“On behalf of our 700,000 customers, and the 15,800 people who signed this petition, we are urging the government to abandon this legislation before it is too late,” Lottoland chief executive Luke Brill said on Thursday.
