New Jersey approves temporary sports betting regulations
The New Jersey Racing Commission adopted on Wednesday regulations for wagering at the racetracks set to begin Thursday morning at Monmouth Park.
“It’s a great moment for New Jersey racing,” Executive Director Frank Zanzuccki said after a unanimous vote on the rules. “We are hopeful that sports wagering will give a boost to both industries, both the racing industry and the casino industry, and also the state of New Jersey.”
The new rules were published on the commission’s website after approval by Gov. Phil Murphy, who is scheduled to place the state’s first bet Thursday morning at Monmouth Park in Oceanport.
The commissioners were reviewing about 60 license applications they received as of Wednesday for employees working for William Hill, the vendor running sports betting at Monmouth Park.
Fans chomping at the bit to place their bets will be able to place wagers on the World Cup, set to kick off Thursday, as well as U.S. Open golf, NASCAR races, WNBA games and more at Monmouth Park.
