The General Shareholders’ Meeting of the State Company Lotteries and State Gambling (SELAE) has approved the annual accounts for the fiscal year 2017, a period in which it recorded a total turnover of 8,917 million euros for the sales of all its games, which represented a growth of 1.24% over the previous year.

This was announced on Friday by the state company, which explained the increase in sales of that year “consolidates the positive trend” started by the company in 2013 and has detailed that in the last four years the cumulative growth is of a 4.7%.
Specifically, SELAE has highlighted the “good behavior” of National Lottery, EuroMillions and Lototurf. “The consolidation of the economic recovery, as well as the strategy of innovation and development of its games, equipment or products in recent years has allowed the sales of lotteries to maintain an upward trend,” the company said.

Regarding the National Lottery, it has indicated that it remains as “the most relevant game” for the public company and sales increased by more than 3.4%. Particularly noteworthy are the results of Thursday’s raffles, with a 5.7% increase.

In addition, the most important draw of the year, the Christmas Lottery, increased its sales for the fourth consecutive year, so that turnover grew by 3.25% and almost reached 2,760 million euros.

In relation to active games, the “important” growth of EuroMillions stands out, which increased its sales by 5.9% and had a turnover of 1,291.6 million.

As for the rest of lotuses, SELAE has detailed that La Primitiva experienced a decrease of 6.23%, “mainly due to the fact that the product has already reached its maturation period, so that improvements are currently being analyzed for the game”. BonoLoto maintained its sales with respect to the previous year, also with a slight decrease of 0.6%. El Gordo de la Primitiva experienced, on the other hand, a decrease of 4.3%.

For its part, the behavior produced in sports betting recorded positive data in the horse bet Lototurf, with a rise of more than 10%. The rest of the sports bets decreased: La Quiniela, 10.8%; El Quinigol, 6% and Quíntuple Plus, 14%.

Finally, SELAE has shown that online sales presented an “important” increase of 17% over the previous year and reached 135 million euros, which is 1.52% of the total sale of Lotteries.
