DraftKings Launches New Ad Campaign With Charles Barkley

DraftKings‘s latest partner is none other than NBA Hall-of-Famer Charles Barkley. The Round Mound of Rebound now appears in one of DK’s new advertisements.

The ad itself is a fairly standard comedic spot. Barkley visits Dr. Aftkings (get it?), who diagnoses him with acute win deficiency and prescribes playing on the DraftKings Sportsbook app to cure the condition.

It’s a short spot with a quick hook. The most notable part about it is the advertising of the sportsbook app, rather than DraftKings’s bread-and-butter, daily fantasy sports.

The ad is the first of two to feature Barkley. The other ad shows Barkley bumping into Dr. Aftkings on an airplane.

I’m excited to be partnering with DraftKings as they introduce their new sportsbook app,” Barkley said in an announcement from DraftKings. “Their products and their advertising are great, and I’m happy to be part of their team going forward.”

Barkley has long made known his history with gambling, the good times and the bad.

He has also long supported legalized sports betting, and made it known on more than one occasion, such as in an interview on the Dan Patrick Show in May.

“First of all, the notion that people don’t gamble on sports is ridiculous and silly,” Barkley said. “I mean, I love to gamble. The notion that you have to go to Vegas and bet on sports is silly. It should have been legal a long time ago.”
