The Dallas Cowboys say they are the first NFL team to have a sponsorship agreement with a casino.

The deal with WinStar World Casino and Resort in Oklahoma was announced Thursday. League owners voted recently to allow clubs to strike such deals.

Jerry Jones and the organization announced a partnership with WinStar World Casino as the official casino of the team. It’s the first-ever partnership between an NFL team and a casino.

“The Dallas Cowboys take great pride in aligning themselves with the best brands in the world,” said Jones, the Cowboys’ owner/GM. “It is a privilege to stand shoulder to shoulder as partners with such a prominent entertainment brand like WinStar World Casino.”

Jones wasn’t the only GM at the podium on Thursday. He was joined by Jack Parkinson, the general manger of WinStar, who expressed his excitement with the new partnership. Parkinson, a native of Zimbabwe, said he is now officially a Cowboys fan after this new deal. Moments later, Jerry Jones quipped about the Cowboys’ global reach.

In May, the Supreme Court cleared the way for states to legalize sports betting by striking down a 1992 federal law that effectively banned sports betting in most states.

Jones said the NFL’s efforts to sort out the high court’s ruling could be “months, years in the making.” He said he was excited to be “standing here that we don’t have to wait years in the making.”
