Svenska Spel help to combat gambling addiction

Business News

With three months remaining until a new game regulation is in place in Sweden, Svenska Spel chooses to focus on gaming responsibility. This week was decided on a further record sum for Swedish research on gambling addiction.

Over £30 million earmarked to increase knowledge and insight into gambling problems and how to best prevent the problems.

With the support of Svenska Spel, we will be able to continue with our long-term strategy to strengthen Swedish research in gambling addiction. Our hope is that research projects, among other things, help identify risk behaviors early on, “says Sara Lindholm, chairman of the Research Council.

The Research Council was established by Svenska Spel in 2010 and consists of experienced researchers who annually assess applications and award grants to deputy researchers at Swedish universities and colleges. The idea was then, as now, to increase the knowledge of how to best prevent and treat game abuse. The agreement is extended by four years and SEK 24 million.

Svenska Spel also decides continued support for Sweden’s only professorship in gaming addiction, Anders Håkansson at Lund University, who will receive another 7.5 million kronor. A total of SEK 31.5 million is hedged for research.

“We are very proud to contribute to the progress of research. Since 2010, we have supported research about gambling addiction by approximately SEK 45 million. We seriously mean our customers’ concerns and encourage other gaming companies to follow our example, “said Marie Loob, tf. CEO, Svenska Spel.
