Churchill Downs returns to revenue growth
Churchill Downs Inc. reported higher adjusted earnings for the first quarter, beating analysts’ estimates.
The company’s revenue for the quarter rose to $265.4 million from $189.3 million.
Net income for the quarter fell to $11.6 million from $182 million. But last year’s results included a $168.3 million gain on the sale of Big Fish Games Inc. in January 2018.
The company’s Churchill Downs segment, which includes Churchill Downs Racetrack and Derby City Gaming, reported adjusted earnings of $1.4 million, compared with a loss of $6 million a year earlier. Revenue for the segment rose to $21.4 million from $2.3 million.
Results for the segment were helped by the opening of Derby City Gaming in September, which contributed $18.7 million in revenue for the quarter and adjusted earnings of $7.4 million.
