Spelinspektionen to investigate under-18 sports betting

Business News

The Swedish Gambling Authority  (Spelinspektionen ) has stated that several gaming companies are under investigation following bets been placed on under 18s football matches.

The betting objects relate, among other things, to supposed events by individual football players where some are under 18 years of age.

Betting on players under the age of 18 is prohibited and is considered to be a serious violation of the game law. The provision aims to protect the integrity of youth sports and is of importance in preventing young people under the age of 18 being exposed to the influence of manipulating the game, so-called match fixation. The Gaming Inspectorate is very serious about such betting and has therefore initiated supervision of several companies regarding betting on players under the age of 18.

The Gaming Inspectorate will now have special supervision of betting on players who are under 18 years of age.
