New Jersey sportsbooks gain momentum
The legal sports betting market in New Jersey saw significant recovery in the month of July while digital betting increased to a record high share for the betting industry.
It was reported that the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement said the revenue of state licensed sports betting companies reached an estimated sum of $17.9m in July. More than 4 times the revenue they earned this time last year. This is a major improvement when compared to the $9.7 million that license owners earned in June 2019.
While revenue increased, 11 licensed betting companies in New Jersey reported total betting handle of $251.4 million in July. This is about $22 million less than they earned the previous month. It was also the lowest total that they’ve earned till date this year.
Digital betting accounted for over $213 million of the total sum, just under 85%, up nearly 2 points from the digital share in June. For the year till date, total betting handle was over $2.23 billion, 81.3% of which was done with a digital device, despite the fact that revenue still stands at $127.5 million.
As usual, The Meadowlands race track’s Fanduel powered betting company ranked first on the revenue chart with an estimated $9.1 million, which is twice the result in June and up from $1.4 million in July 2018. Digital bettors claimed over $7.3 million (about 81.4%) of the revenue in July 2019.
The operations of Resorts Digital Gaming includes FanDuel’s main rival DraftKings including The Stars Group’s BetStars (which would soon be called FoxBet) brand, came second on the revenue chart for July with $3.72 million, up from $2.7 million in June. Resorts Casino Hotel’s land based sports book got a respectable $587,000 to Resort’s total haul.
