DraftKings Goes Live with Sportsbook App in Iowa

DraftKings has debuted its mobile and online sportsbook in Iowa, allowing anyone inside state lines 21 and over to place bets on their favorite teams and sporting events after in-person registration at any of the three Wild Rose casinos.

The app’s launch offers fans a new, easily accessible means of engaging with the sports they love in the state, following the opening of three Wild Rose Sportsbooks powered by DraftKings in fall 2019.

“DraftKings has seen steady fan engagement in Iowa during the last few months at our three Wild Rose sportsbooks across the state, and we couldn’t be more excited to provide customers with our state-of-the-art mobile sports-betting platform,” said Matt Kalish, President, DraftKings North America and co-founder. “We have worked diligently to perfect our sportsbook product since it launched in 2018, and starting today, we’re proud to offer Iowans a safe and responsible place to wager on sports – one that can be accessed conveniently from the palm of their hands.”

Sports bettors in Iowa will be able to place bets on all major U.S. sports, including professional and college football, baseball, professional and college basketball, hockey, golf, auto racing and much more. State law requires bettors to finalize their DraftKings mobile and online sports betting registration in-person at a Wild Rose-DraftKings sportsbook in Clinton, Emmetsburg or Jefferson.

After registering in-person, DraftKings customers can bet via the Sportsbook mobile app and online site from anywhere in the state. After January 1, 2021, customers will no longer be required to register in-person.

“We believe DraftKings is offering the best mobile app yet to Iowa sports betting enthusiasts,” said Tom Timmons, president and COO of Wild Rose. “Since we opened the sportsbooks, we have been deluged with requests for this app. We are happy to offer it now, with the NCAA basketball tournament just around the corner.”

Another important distinction in Iowa is that sportsbooks are not permitted to accept player proposition wagers involving a university or college in Iowa. This regulation also extends to the opponents in games with Iowa schools. Pre-match and in-game wagering on Iowa schools and their opponents is permitted.
