Spain ban gambling advertising from shirt sponsorships

Marketing

Gambling companies inside Spanish football stadiums or on shirts will no longer be permitted.

The move is one of the details included in a royal decree draft, which was first presented in February.

The latest version says that Radio, TV and video steaming platforms can only broadcast betting advertisements between 01:00 and 05:00, while the promotion of customer retention through bonuses is prohibited.

Furthermore, sponsors on football kits will not be allowed.

Even sponsorship contracts with gambling companies that have already been signed will have to be adapted to the new rules within three months of the decree being made official.

Advertising of gambling cannot be geared specifically to minors and must include a warning to explain that under-18s cannot participate.

Finally, online gambling advertisements on social media can only be done if they use mechanisms that prevent them being directed at minors.
