The Michigan Gaming Control Board granted Xpress Bet a temporary license to offer advance deposit wagering on pari-mutuel horse races. 

The move brings another online pari-mutuel wagering platform to Michigan bettors thanks to Michigan Gaming Control Board Executive Director Richard Kalm’s latest order. 

The license comes via a third-party facilitator agreement with Northville Downs. Northville Downs is the only licensed race track in Michigan. 

TVG Network and TwinSpires both have agreements with Northville Downs as well; those were formed in 2020. 

“Michigan horse racing fans now have a third option for betting on horse races from anywhere in the state using mobile wagering,” Kalm said. “It’s a win for horse racing fans who want more choices in convenient mobile wagering providers, and the horse racing industry hopes to tap additional funding through this betting format.”

Despite Michigan’s quic adoption of online gambling in 2020/2021, the state had relatively restrictive horse race betting policies. 

In December 2019, the state changed its Horse Racing Law of 1995 to authorize race licensees to contract third-party providers for online live and simulcast wagering on horse races. In June 2020, the MGCB approved mobile wagering on horse races. 

And with horse race betting now fully legal and running in Michigan, bettors in the state have no shortage of online betting options.
