Svenska Spel revenue down 3% in first quarter
The start of 2022 has been more challenging than expected for Svenska Spel. Both revenue and earnings are affected by the pandemic during the first half of the quarter.
The Group’s net gaming revenue for the quarter is SEK 1,935 M (1,999), a decrease of 3 percent compared with the same quarter last year. Operating profit of SEK 595 M (598) is a decrease of 0.4 percent.
The operating margin amounts to 31 percent, however, the comparison with the same quarter last year is affected by voluntary repayment of support for short-term work in the first quarter of 2021.
Net gaming revenues for the Sport & Casino business area decreased during the quarter by 14 percent compared with the same quarter last year. This is mainly due to the large impact of the pandemic at the beginning of the year due to canceled sports events, but also to the strengthened gambling responsibility measures that have been introduced so that customers do not gamble for more than they can afford and with special care for young customers.
Net gaming revenues for the Group amounted to SEK 1,935 M (1,999), a decrease of SEK 65 M or 3%. Two out of three business areas have negative growth with the impact of the pandemic and new deposit limits.Operating profit for the Group amounted to SEK 595 M (598), a decrease of SEK 3 M or 0.4%.
Our revenues and our results are affected by both the pandemic and our strengthened gaming responsibility measures. Despite challenges during the first quarter, I look forward with confidence to the rest of 2022. We continue to provide our customers with entertaining gaming experiences in a responsible way, as we want gaming to be a joy for everyone, says Patrik Hofbauer, President and CEO of Svenska Game.
