Danske Spil posts flat half-year revenue of DKK2.35bn
Danske Spil’s half-year accounts are at the level of 2021. A stagnant market with low consumer confidence and the introduction of new responsibility measures negatively affects revenue, while the merger with Klasselotteriet has proceeded according to plan and contributes positively to the accounts from 1 April.
Danske Spil’s gross gaming revenue (BSI) amounts to DKK 2,348 million in the first half of 2022. DKK, and the profit after tax is DKK 796 million. It is on par with the first half of 2021, as BSI is DKK 11 million. DKK higher than in 2021, while the result is DKK 4 million. DKK lower than in 2021.
“We have had a satisfactory first half of the year. The politically decided merger of the Klasselotteriet and Danske Spil is progressing according to plan, and I am happy that we are maintaining good momentum in a market characterized by high inflation at the same time that we are continuously introducing new accountability measures to limit problematic gambling behaviour,” says Peter Christensen , chairman of the board of Danske Spil.
In autumn 2020, Danske Spil was the first – and so far the only – in the industry to introduce Game Cards to limit problematic gambling behavior and combat match-fixing and money laundering. Danske Spil has also reduced, among other things, the offer of bets on sports games, the number of advertisements on TV and the deposit limits on casino games.
There has been a focus on the development of the Danes’ gaming business in the first half of 2022. In March, an extra draw for the Eurojackpot was launched, which means, among other things, that the pool increases faster. In April, a merger was carried out with Denmark’s oldest lottery, Klasselotteriet. In addition, there has been, among other things, a focus on the digital customer journey. Together with the responsibility measures, these measures represent Danske Spil’s good development.
“We work purposefully to constantly develop our business, so that we maintain a solid position in the market and are able to both be profitable and run Danske Spil in a proper and responsible manner. We were created to create a profit for the community and ensure that Danes can play in an entertaining and safe way, and that is what we at Danske Spil work for every day,” says Nikolas Lyhne-Knudsen, CEO of Danish games.
