English Snooker player King suspended amid betting probe

Regulation

Mark King has been suspended from the World Snooker Tour after an investigation into placing bets on a Welsh Open defeat last month.

King was beaten 4-0 by Joe Perry in the opening round of the Welsh Open on 13 February, with his price at the bookmakers noticeably drifting prior to the contest.

The world number 57 played poorly in the match and was whitewashed, with the WPBSA going on to review the match and decide a suspension for King is appropriate until the conclusion of the investigation.

A WPBSA statement read: ‘WPBSA Chairman Jason Ferguson has today taken the decision to suspend Mark King from attending or competing on the World Snooker Tour with immediate effect.
