Vermont sports betting bill passes Senate

A bill to legalize Vermont online sports betting has been approved, with a launch target of January 2024 looking to be a realistic starting point.

The Vermont Senate approved H.127 on third reading this morning. The amended online sports betting bill has been successfully passed out of the Senate and will be sent back to the House of Representatives.

Vermonters would have access to two to six sports betting apps under the bill. In-person sports betting would remain illegal, as the state lacks the physical infrastructure to host physical sportsbooks.

The total number of apps will be dictated by how many contracts the Department of Liquor and Lottery can secure, as it negotiates revenue-sharing rates with operators. Lawmakers have indicated they expect two or three.
