New York sees record $1.6bn sports bets placed in June
Legal online sports betting in New York set records in 2022 and quickly became the nation’s largest market. Through the first six months of 2023, the Empire State is on pace to shatter last year’s numbers.
According to data released Friday by the New York State Gaming Commission, bettors wagered over $1.16 billion online in June. Last month’s figure represents a nearly 11% increase over June 2022.
This marks the ninth consecutive month of total sports betting handle of at least $1 billion in New York, which sets a record for the sports betting industry in the United States.
Since it launched mobile sportsbooks in January of 2022, New York’s operators have taken in more than $22 billion in wagers, making them one of only three states to top $20 billion in lifetime total handle. That tremendous sports betting activity has resulted in more than $2 billion in GGR.
