PlayUp Interactive is no longer licensed to accept transactions in the New Jersey sports betting or iGaming markets, according to the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement.

A spokesperson for the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (NJDGE) said Thursday that the agency revoked the Australia-based operators sports betting and iGaming licenses the day before.

“Patrons will be able to access their funds and can withdraw them from the site,” the spokesperson said in an email. “Additionally, PlayUp is obligated to pay out any pending wagers, while no new wagers can be accepted. We encourage patrons to contact DGE at info@njdge.org if they have any concerns or require further assistance.”

DGE Director David Rebuck sent PlayUp Global CEO Daniel Simic a three-page letter notifying him of the decision. Rebuck noted the state asked on June 29 for information on employee withholding tax and six months of bank statements for this year.

The state set a July 7 deadline for the records but received no response from CFO Glenn McPherson. NJDGE staff called Simic the following day, and Simic told them McPherson was no longer CFO. The state gave Simic another week, indicating that the company risked losing its license.

The letter said Simic provided only part of the records requested after the new July 14 deadline. In addition, the DGE said PlayUp still owed it money and found that the company “significantly reduced its employee head count” in the state. 

In addition, PlayUp failed to inform the DGE about a potential fraud investigation related to a patron who sought a withdrawal four months ago. Rebuck said the company failed to explain why the investigation was delayed.

“PlayUp’s continued non-compliance with NJSA 5:12-80 and inability to comply with the requirements of NJAC 13:69O and NJAC 13:69N demonstrate that it is currently unable to offer real money sports wagering to New Jersey customers at the standard required by Division statutes and regulations,” Rebuck wrote.
