ATG reports first half revenue of SEK 2.5 billion

ATG®’s net gaming revenue for the first half of 2023 was SEK 2.5 billion, a decrease of two percent compared to the same period last year. Horse betting decreased by eight percent during the period, while sports (+14 percent) and casino (+22 percent) had good growth.

The second quarter had a growth in net gaming revenue of 1 percent. It was important for us to reverse the reduction which was as much as 6 percent during the first quarter, says Lotta Nilsson Viitala, CFO at ATG.

During the first half of the year, clear effects of the high inflation are visible, which reduces the entertainment wallet and thus gambling, even if the total number of customers is still the same as before.

Against this background, it is gratifying that during the second quarter of the year we see a small growth of one percent compared to last year, says Lotta Nilsson Viitala.

The company’s gambling responsibility work is central and as part of it, the proportion of green customers and proportion of green turnover is reported based on self-tests and actual gambling behaviour. 170,000 Swedish customers have done the self-test. Of these, 87 percent are green in their gambling and the share of green turnover is 79 percent, figures that have been stable over the past year.

It is important to us that our 1.3 million active and committed customers feel good about their gambling and we continue to continuously develop our gambling responsibility work, says Lotta Nilsson Viitala.

In Denmark, ATG’s subsidiary continues to gain market share and had growth of 24 percent in the first half of the year, partly as a result of exchange rate changes.

The group’s total revenue amounted to 2.9 billion, a decrease of three percent. The group’s costs amounted to 2.2 billion. The gaming tax is the largest cost item for ATG. The second highest cost item is the purchase of equestrian information and rights from our owners, Svensk Travsport and Svensk Galopp.

Costs have been reduced by SEK 33 million or two percent. Our costs are negatively affected by inflation, among other things, and we continue the work to improve efficiency and thereby reduce costs, says Lotta Nilsson Viitala.

ATG’s operating profit for the first half of 2023 was SEK 744 million. The operating margin is 26 percent and has decreased from 27 percent.
