A significant new legislation was passed which now allows sports betting and online gambling in Brazil

The new law which establishes a clear legal framework for businesses offering sports betting in both online and offline markets.

Fixed-odds are not just a traditional form of betting but also immensely popular in Brazil. Due to that, the Sports Betting PM is a much needed and welcome development measure.

The government wants to charge an 18% levy on the revenue of sports-betting websites and a 30m-real ($6m) fee for a five-year licence to operate one. It will create a regulator, the National Secretariat for Games and Betting.
