The Netherlands Lottery names new CEO
The Supervisory Board of the Dutch Lottery announced on Thursday, November 9, that Arjan Blok will eventually become the new CEO of the Dutch Lottery.
Arjan Blok is currently CFO and co-director at the gaming organization. His appointment will take effect at the end of the last term of Niels Onkenhout, the current CEO of the Dutch Lottery, no later than September 1, 2024.
Alexander Pechtold, Chairman of the Supervisory Board (SB) of the Dutch Lottery: “On behalf of the Supervisory Board, I would first like to express my sincere appreciation for the board of the Dutch Lottery, with Niels Onkenhout as CEO and Arjan Blok as CFO. Over the past seven years, they have helped develop the Dutch Lottery into a healthy home for strong gaming brands, where the interests of the player always come first through a distinctive responsible gaming policy and a growing contribution back to society.
In discussions about a successor to Niels, given the approaching end of his last term, Arjan emerged as the ideal candidate. Under the leadership of Arjan, the organization has been characterized by continuous positive financial results after the merger in 2016. He has also made an important contribution to accelerating the digital transformation. As co-director, he has a lot of knowledge of the organization and can ensure continuity in the company. We are confident that in the long term, with this new Board of Directors – supplemented by a new CFO to be recruited – we will have a strong team to take the Dutch Lottery to the next chapter.”
Niels Onkenhout started as CEO in 2016 to merge the two gaming organizations, De Lotto and De Nederlandse Staatsloterij, into the largest and most responsible provider in the Netherlands: the Dutch Lottery. In his seven years as CEO, the Dutch Lottery has achieved record contributions and thus a major impact for Dutch society, sports and charities. Niels Onkenhout’s last term runs until September 1, 2024.
