New York sports betting handle jumps 27% in April to $1.96 billion

The New York State Gaming Commission selected nine operators to launch NY online sportsbooks.

The first betting apps went live Jan. 8, 2022, in time to capitalize on the NFL playoffs and the Super Bowl. In the first month of online betting in New York, sportsbooks generated nearly $1.7 billion in wagers placed. Since that time, bettors have combined for over $42 billion in bets.

Online sports betting in New York generated $1.96 billion in handle, snapping a streak of three straight months that sportsbooks surpassed $2 billion. Only New Jersey ($44.4 billion) and Nevada ($37.7 billion) boast higher lifetime handles than New York ($37.3 billion) since the repeal of PASPA in 2018.
