By the book: Play’n GO’s Tome of Insanity set to become latest grid slot blockbuster

The latest game in the hugely successful Rich Wilde series sees Play’n GO take the narrative into surprising places while delivering one of its most technically sophisticated grid slots to date.

It is no exaggeration to say that grid slots have completely changed the face of the online slots world, altering the very way players engage with games.

At the forefront of this quadrilateral revolution has been Play’n GO, the powerhouse casino entertainment studio that pioneered the new genre, taking inspiration from popular social games such as Candy Crush.

Make no mistake: grid slots are not easy to create. There’s the need to deliver a very different style of gameplay experience than you might expect from a standard 5×3 title. Players are looking to build wins via clusters or matching symbols, rather than simple paylines, and bringing together that intuitive yet challenging feel is a very unique task. There’s no one formula that can be replicated every time.

With Tome of Insanity, Play’n GO has once again rewritten the rules. The result is one of the most thrilling instalments in the Rich Wilde series to date.

Combining beloved IP with edge-of-your-seat game mechanics is never simple. Since Book of Dead, the world’s most popular online slot game, Rich Wilde has accumulated millions of fans around the globe.

With every new outing, there isn’t just excitement, but also increased expectations. Fans have become so invested in the characters and storylines that Play’n GO is under immense pressure to deliver something special.

Luckily for those fans, the casino entertainment studio is not one to play it safe. Tome of Insanity is a 5×5 grid slot that drives the narrative forward and into some surprising places.

Firstly, the plot. We all know about the tough situations that famed explorer Rich Wilde has found himself in previously. This time out, he’s pushed to his very limits.  After discovering another powerful Necronomicon, Wilde must do everything he can to outrun the horrifying denizens of the ‘Nameless Mist’ and escape the spawn of Yog-Sothoth.

This is Lovecraftian-style horror at its finest; it looks stunning, and terrifying. The grid is packed with eldritch treasures, including gemstones, severed tentacles, nameless beats, enchanted skulls and even the fabled Necronomicon, or Book of Dead, itself.

Supporting the story and the graphics is a game packed full of features.Perhaps the one fans will be most excited to trigger is known, ominously enough, as the ‘Damned Ritual’.

Here, the map to the left of the grid may light up with red and green eyes in various positions. The eyes can be activated by landing winning combinations on those positions. If a player triggers 12 red eyes, this will summon the almighty Yog-Sothoth, as a 3×3 mega wild plays out in a 3-step sequence.

It is the type of spectacle that Play’n GO fans have come to expect, particularly following on from the huge global success of Tome of Madness, which launched back in 2019.

The Rich Wilde series has also since spawned a host of sequels and spin-offs, including Cat Wilde and the Lost Chapter, which follows Rich’s intrepid daughter. There’s also Gerard’s Gambit, starring Gerard, the black sheep of the family, while helping to introduce new slots players to some of the genre’s more popular mechanics.

With Tome of Insanity, the heat was on to produce a worthy next chapter in this epic saga. Once again, Play’n GO hasn’t let us down.
