DraftKings maintains market lead in Massachusetts
The Paris Summer Olympics helped to boost the Massachusetts sports betting handle in August of 2024 by more than 68% when compared to the same month in 2023.
The Massachusetts Gaming Commission released its monthly numbers for sports wagering in the Commonwealth.
The state’s 7 online and 3 retail sportsbooks handled $447.318M in wagers. That represents an increase of 68.2% over the August 2023 handle of $305.739 million.
The Summer Olympics were a hit with American TV viewers, in addition to bettors. There were no other major changes in the sports schedule between this August and August of 2023.
Overall, $33.32 million in taxable sports wagering revenue was generated across the mobile and in-person licensees in August, with a combined hold of 7.71% with DraftKings holding 52.1% of all wagers placed.
