Sorare to be prosecuted for providing unlicensed gambling facilities

Regulation

Football-themed website Sorare.com is due to appear in court next week charged with providing unlicensed gambling facilities to consumers in Britain.

The hearing, which is being prosecuted by the Gambling Commission, will take place at 10am on 4 October at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court.

Sorare is charged with providing facilities for gambling without holding an operating licence contrary to section 33(1), (4), and section 36(3), (3A) of the Gambling Act 2005.

Sorare was founded by Nicolas Julia and Adrien Montfort in 2018 in Paris to bring sports fans across the globe closer to the players, teams, and leagues they love.

Sorare is a fantasy sports gaming experience and marketplace featuring officially licensed digital player cards. With Sorare you build legacy teams buying, selling, collecting and trading player cards and compete with them in fantasy games to win rewards week over week and season over season, just like a professional sports owner.
