Norsk Tipping investigated by regulator over self-exclusion breaches
Norsk Tipping has committed a breach of the gambling regulations after one or more customers were unable to lock themselves out via the company’s app. This is revealed in a letter from the Norwegian Lottery Authority to Norsk Tipping.
“We refer to the letter of 25 June 2024 from Norsk Tipping with notification of deviations related to exclusion from gambling, and Norsk Tipping’s review of the deviation in a meeting on 4 July 2024,” the letter says. – We can confirm that the discrepancy is related to the fact that player(s) were not allowed to lock themselves out via the app for a period of time, writes senior adviser Anya Markhus in the Norwegian Lottery Authority in a text message to NTB.
This is a case that dates back some time, and the error has been corrected. Norsk Tipping itself notified the Norwegian Lottery Authority about the matter, and we are happy for the opportunity to shed light on it as best as possible, communications advisor Anne Marit Sletten writes to NTB.
The case is now in an initial phase. Norsk Tipping itself reported the discrepancy to us, and we will now carry out further investigations to find out whether there has been a breach of the law. We cannot comment further on the matter until we know what has happened, writes Markhus in the Norwegian Lottery Authority. Norsk Tipping was recently fined NOK 4.5 million for violating several sections of the Gambling Act. They became so after a customer had received a payout of NOK 25 million from an online casino, despite the fact that the law states that you cannot win more than NOK 100,000 on the game, in addition to a jackpot of NOK 5 million.
