Unibet fined €400000 in the Netherlands
The Gaming Authority (Ksa) has imposed a fine of €400,000 on Optdeck Service Limited, known for its brand name Unibet, for admitting players who were registered in Cruks. Optdeck has indicated that it will not appeal the fine imposed.
People who want to protect themselves against the dangers of gambling can take a Gambling Stop with Cruks. After such a registration, licensed gambling providers may no longer admit them, both for physical and online gambling.
In order to be able to carry out a Cruks check, the BSN number of a player must be compared with the register before a player registers with a gambling provider. The Ksa received a signal in mid-2023 that Unibet had not carried out this check properly during the 2022 World Cup.
After investigation, this turned out to be the case. As a result, it admitted players who were registered in Cruks at that time.
The Gambling Stop is an important tool to combat gambling addiction and protect players from the undesirable effects of gambling. It is therefore of great importance that providers carry out these checks meticulously. Failure to do so will result in a fine.
