Iowa sports handle up 14% to $2.8 billion in 2024

According to the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission, Iowan’s spent a record breaking $2.8 billion on sports betting in 2024.

Tina Eick, an Administrator at the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission, said that both the handle and revenue from sports betting increased from 2023.

“Sports Handle was up in 2024 over 2023. In total, there was $2.8 billion in wagering or sports handle in Iowa for the year. That’s up 14% over last year. And revenue on on that handle is up 8%,” Eick said.

She thinks that Iowa could see the record amount of money bet on sports stabilize this year.

“I think we’ll be seeing a stabilization of the market as more of our surrounding states add sports wagering to their to their gaming profile. I think we’re going to see that stabilize as far as handle and the amount of growth in that area. But certainly I think the handle shows a continued high interest in that form of of gaming or wagering in in the state,” Eick said.
