Iowa sports wagering up by 12% in January
The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission reported nearly $22.1 million in adjusted gross sports betting revenue for January as both DraftKings and FanDuel started the year in strong fashion.
It was the fifth-highest revenue total in 54 months of wagering in the Hawkeye State, and four of the top five amounts have come in the last five months of betting.
Owans wagered more than $289.7 million in January, up 12% compared to 2024, according to the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission.
Revenue on the sports wagering handle was up 8% in 2024 over 2023, said Tina Eick, an administrator at the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission.
Americans bet an estimated $150 billion on sports in 2024 — a 24% from 2023 — resulting in more than $14.2 billion in operator revenue, according to the American Gaming Association.
