Illinois gaming regulators have ordered  Kalshi to stop offering prediction markets on sport betting, saying the contracts amount to unauthorized sports betting under state law.

The Division has accessed the mobile application and website, located at www.kalshi.com, and it has determined that your company, Kalshi Inc. d/b/a KalshiEX LLC and/or Kalshi , is listing unauthorized sports wagers for individuals located within the State of Illinois.

Kalshi and Robinhood were handed orders in New Jersey after taking trades on March Madness. The emerging world of sports predictions is facing pushback in the US. A failure to company with the notices may result in the commission “pursuing all legal remedies and actions” against the company.
