FanDuel Sportsbook shutters in-person betting facilities at PHX Arena

Operator News

The FanDuel Sportsbook at PHX Arena is set to shutter its in-person betting facilities this July, the Phoenix Suns organization has confirmed.

Visitors will need to finalize their last wagers before operations cease on July 24, following which the space will be reimagined into a new venue aimed at enhancing fan experiences.

“The Phoenix Suns and FanDuel have agreed to close the FanDuel Sportsbook in PHX Arena on July 24. FanDuel will remain a valuable partner of the Phoenix Suns, and we will transform the space into a new fan-friendly experience.

The closure aligns with challenges faced by the sportsbook, which has struggled to turn a significant profit recently. According to a report shared by Burn City Sports, the FanDuel Sportsbook has had to confront retail sportsbooks’ higher payout winnings in four out of the past six months, a statistic from the Arizona Department of Gaming. In a performance brief, it was noted that FanDuel reported only a $32,516 adjusted gross revenue in one of its few profitable months. It appears these financial inconsistencies may have effectively contributed to the decision to cease operations and reevaluate the space’s purpose.

Even as the sportsbook operations wind down, the lounge itself will stay open within the PHX Arena. However, no longer will visitors be able to place sports wagers in person. Signage outside the venue now reads, “ATTENTION CUSTOMERS: In-person wagering at the FanDuel Sportsbook located in the Phoenix Suns Arena will permanently cease at the close of business on July 24, as the space is converted to a FanDuel lounge. All payouts beyond this date can be processed via the mail-in process as highlighted on the back of your ticket,” as The Arizona Republic’s Jason Wolf has reported.
