European Parliament backs Gibraltar’s removal from EU high-risk list

EU lawmakers have voted to remove Gibraltar from the bloc’s “grey” list of countries with lax money laundering controls.

The removal will take effect in the coming weeks after publication in the official journal. The Gibraltar Government says it welcomes the fact that the European Commission’s proposal to delist Gibraltar will now take effect once it is published in the Official Journal of the European Union, provided the European Council raises no objections.

Minister for Trade, Justice and Industry, Nigel Feetham, said the move ends uncertainty and reflects Gibraltar’s compliance since being delisted by the FATF over a year ago.

He credited sustained engagement with EU institutions and efforts to position Gibraltar at the forefront of anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism finance efforts.
