Dutch gambling regulator issues warning to TonyBet
The Dutch Gambling Authority (Ksa) has issued a warning to TonyBet for offering prohibited betting options. TonyBet offered bets on the winner of the Ballon d’Or and the Golden Ball for the FIFA Club World Cup. This is illegal under Dutch law.
Licensed gambling providers are permitted to offer sports betting, but only under certain conditions. These conditions include objective, verifiable performances within official sporting events organized by recognized national or international sports organizations. Betting options outside these parameters are not considered permitted.
The Ballon d’Or and the Golden Ball for the Club World Cup are prizes awarded based on a vote or jury decision and do not meet the requirements for permitted sports betting. The Ksa has confronted TonyBet about the prohibited bets. The conversation revealed that no wagers had been placed on either bet.
TonyBet has indicated that it will be more vigilant in the future regarding the offerings made through its sportsbook platform.
For now, the Ksa has issued a warning. However, she emphasizes that gambling providers are responsible for their own betting options, even if they are provided through a third party. If an incident occurs and an unauthorized offer has been made, providers must report it to the Ksa.
