Kalshi to expand its sports offering with prop bets

Kalshi is preparing to launch player props to help sports bettors make smarter and more informed decisions when choosing player prop bets. They’ll use the same advanced data, player ratings, matchup analysis, and predictive modeling tools that NFL front offices use.

Player props, short for “proposition bets,” are bets placed on the performance of individual athletes during a game or event, not on the overall result. For example, you might bet on how many points a player scores, how many three-pointers they make, the total number of rebounds, touchdowns, or passing yards.

According to Kalshi spokesperson Sara Slane, these new player prop offerings will be limited to football for the time being.

“This is a logical step forward for us, and there’s definitely strong demand for it,” Slane said. Kalshi CEO Tarek Mansour added, “Bringing these markets under CFTC oversight gives our customers protections similar to those enjoyed by Wall Street traders and institutions.”

Recently, the sports betting industry has been closely watching Kalshi’s legal developments. Unlike traditional sportsbooks such as FanDuel and DraftKings, which are regulated state by state, Kalshi is federally regulated by the CFTC. This has allowed them to operate in states like Texas and California, where sports betting is otherwise illegal.

Kalshi has argued in court that their model is different from traditional sportsbooks because users are betting against each other, rather than against the house.
