Iowa sportsbooks reported $181.6 million in wagers for September 2025, producing $22.1 million in gross gaming revenue (GGR) at a 12.15% hold. The state collected $1.48 million in taxes from the activity.
The results represent a sharp increase from September 2024, when Iowa posted a handle of $167.0 million and just over $15.8 million in GGR.
Handle rose 9% year-over-year, while GGR increased by 40%, driven by a stronger hold rate in 2025.
Through the first eight months of 2025, Iowa sportsbooks handled nearly $2.86 billion in wagers, producing $161.3 million in GGR and $10.6 million in tax revenue.
Iowa’s August 2025 results highlight a growing market with higher efficiency compared to last year, delivering $181.6M in wagers and $22.1M in operator revenue. With new tax withholding rules set to take effect in 2026, Iowa is positioning itself not only as a stable contributor to state revenues but also as a jurisdiction that keeps pace with evolving national regulatory standards.
