Veikkaus announces 14 redundancies
As part of the new strategy, Veikkaus held change negotiations in Betting and iCasino operations this autumn. The process has now concluded. After the negotiations, 14 employment contracts ended and 19 employees had significant changes to their terms of employment.
We had to make some difficult decisions from a human perspective, but they are necessary for the company’s future. I want to thank those who are no longer continuing with us for their contributions, says Jarkko Nordlund, EVP, Betting & iCasino.
According to Nordlund, Veikkaus is now creating a new organizational structure to prepare the company for the coming years.
Digitalization is strongly shaping our industry as well. International competition and the pace of development are extremely intense. Veikkaus, as a company, has decades of proud traditions and a great deal of valuable expertise. Alongside these strengths, we now need new kinds of skills that will help us serve our customers even better and in a more personalized way.
The company will be recruiting dozens of new professionals in digital channels and sports betting over the coming year.
We need more expertise at Veikkaus to make us even stronger and more competitive in the new market situation. We are also looking beyond Finland’s borders. According to current estimates, more than 30 new positions will open by next summer. We want to be strong, growing, and profitable in the future as well, Nordlund says.
Parliament is expected to adopt the new Gambling Act by the end of 2025. Once the Act enters into force, it will open the Finnish market to other gambling operators alongside Veikkaus, allowing them to apply for licenses for activities such as sports betting and online casino games.
