Danske Spil posts record revenue of DKK 3.82 billion
Danske Spil’s annual accounts for 2024 show a record-high contribution to the distribution funds of DKK 1,820 million, just as the contribution to society of DKK 3,282 million has never been higher.
At the same time, in 2024, there has been a continued focus on healthy gambling habits with new initiatives especially to look after young adult players.
Danske Spil’s annual accounts for 2024 show that the state-owned gaming company delivers the highest contribution to the distribution funds ever of DKK 1,820 million, which is DKK 137 million (8 percent) more than the previous year, just as the total contribution to society also breaks a record, and a total of DKK 3,282 million goes back to society via distribution funds, dividends, taxes and fees.
The result after tax for 2024 increases to DKK 1,948 million. The increase is due to higher gross gaming income (BSI) of DKK 5,256 million. DKK, among other things due to significantly more, higher pools on the lotteries with increased customer interest as a result, as well as growth in the large subsidiaries.
“On behalf of the board of directors, I am pleased to be able to say that we are very satisfied with the year’s accounts, which are strong proof that responsibility and the gaming business are not opposites – quite the opposite. Danske Spil shows that you can run a profitable business and at the same time take responsibility for your customers with a strengthened effort for healthy gaming habits. Danske Spil was created to create value for all of Denmark, and this year we are sending a record amount back to the community. This is money that makes a real difference for sports, voluntary engagement and culture,” says Charlotte Bach Thomassen, acting chairman of Danske Spil.
Danske Spil maintained its significant initiatives such as no marketing of live odds and no TV advertising for sports betting from whistle-to-whistle during live football, which has contributed to a halving of the TV advertising pressure for betting and casino since 2019.
In 2024, the unusually large number of lottery pools has given a boost to BSI, with Eurojackpot alone having 13 maximum pools compared to two the year before. Since the pools arise randomly, this requires Danske Spil to be ready to exploit the opportunities.
The extra drawing day and higher first prize pool in Eurojackpot have been a success, and subscription sales have grown, including with high-pool service. At the same time, seasonal products such as Det Store Jule Lotto and Quick’s Christmas scratch calendar have contributed to the growth.
“The unpredictability inherent in how often the large pools are built up means that Danske Spil must be ready to seize the opportunity when it arises. And we are. We have managed to make the most of the extra attention that the high lottery pools create. At the same time, we are constantly working to get even closer to the Danes – their everyday lives, traditions and communities,” says CEO of Danske Spil, Nikolas Lyhne-Knudsen.
Danske Spil is present where the Danes gather – also at the very big events. We saw this, among other things, at the European Men’s Football Championship, where interest in Oddset was significant. 11 percent more Danes played on Denmark’s matches than at the last European Championship, but on average for much lower amounts, which is an expression of Danske Spil’s efforts to ensure healthy gambling habits.
And it is precisely what is uniquely Danish that is also the focus of Oddset’s game offering, which brings the nation together, from Danish athletes and the Melodi Grand Prix to the King’s New Year’s speech. In the casino area, new gaming experiences with a distinct Danish touch have also been created, and the new Casino app has been well received. The app highlights the unique Danish themes and integrates responsibility even better into the user experience.
