Indiana sports betting tops $610 million in October
Indiana’s sports betting revenue topped $610 million in October, up 14% to $611.6 million.
Sports betting is fully legal and regulated in Indiana for individuals aged 21 and older. Both online/mobile and retail sportsbooks are available, with online betting having been legal since October 2019.
Many Indiana bettors also use legal offshore sportsbooks, which are licensed internationally and not subject to Indiana jurisdiction.
The sports wagering surge likely was due in part to the unusually good football played this season by Indiana University and the University of Notre Dame, and could grow even larger in as Notre Dame competes for a national championship.
Records show the majority of sports bets were placed through online sports wagering operators, such as FanDuel and DraftKings, that are required to be affiliated with one of Indiana’s commercial casinos.
Though several million dollars worth of sports wagers each month continue to be placed in-person at casino sports books, particularly at the four casinos in Northwest Indiana.
