Coinbase is taking its biggest step yet into the broader financial sector. On Wednesday, the company announced customers will now be able to trade stocks on its platform, and also place bets on a wide range of events through a partnership with prediction market Kalshi.

The moves signal that Coinbase is moving beyond its longtime roots as a cryptocurrency company, and are likely to intensify its rivalry with fintech firms like Robinhood.

“The everything exchange is our vision where users will be able to trade every asset, 24/7, from anywhere in the world on one trusted platform that starts with crypto,” said Max Branzburg, vice president of product management at Coinbase. “We believe that having all of this in one platform will enable more efficiency, more access and better outcomes for customers.”
