Massachusetts online sports betting tops $800 million in January
In January 2026, Massachusetts sportsbooks recorded an impressive $808,920,463.77 in total wagers, yielding a gross gaming revenue (GGR) of $82,401,311.11 with a hold percentage of 10.43%.
This translated to $16,465,125.98 in state tax revenue. The results from January indicate a market that has transitioned from initial volatility to a more stable and mature phase.
Compared to the same month last year, total wagering volume has increased; however, the compression of operator margins has resulted in lower revenue even amidst heightened betting activity.
Online sportsbooks led the charge, handling $797,090,795.81 of the total wagers, while retail venues Encore Boston Harbor, MGM Springfield, and Plainridge Park Casino—accounted for a combined $11,829,667.96.
Digital betting remains the predominant force in the Massachusetts market, representing over 98% of the total wagering activity.
