DraftKings shutters retail sportsbook at Wrigley Field

Sports Betting

DraftKings has announced the closure of its retail sportsbook at Wrigley Field, citing rising Illinois wagering taxes as the primary factor for this decision.

The sportsbook, which opened in March 2024 and was the only retail sportsbook integrated into a sports venue in Illinois, will cease in-person betting on May 31. However, DraftKings will maintain its online operations throughout the state. While the retail sportsbook is closing, the venue will continue to operate as a sports bar.

The increased taxation imposed by both the city and state significantly influenced DraftKings’ choice to discontinue the retail sportsbook.

The Chicago Cubs remain committed to the space, with plans to enhance the connection to the ballpark later in the season. Cubs spokesperson Jennifer Martinez further indicated that DraftKings will retain its status as the official partner for sports betting and daily fantasy activities associated with the team.
