Pennsylvania bettors wagered $570,255,552 in June 2026, a record for the month and 17.9% more than they staked a year earlier. PA sportsbooks kept $30,962,098 of it.

That is 53.7% less revenue than June 2025 produced, on a hold that fell to 5.43% from 13.81%. The World Cup opened June 11 across North America, drew an enormous volume of new betting money into the state, and handed most of it straight back.

Pennsylvania taxes sports betting at 36%, split between a 34% state levy and a 2% local share, and even that rate could not stop the state’s collection from falling 39.6% to $10,527,113. Figures come from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.

Pennsylvania has never taken more bets in June. Online wagering rose 19.1% to $548.6 million, and the market added nearly $87 million in handle year over year. By every measure of customer activity, June was the strongest the state has seen in that month.

By every measure of profit, it was among the worst. Revenue came in at less than half of last June’s figure. Retail slipped slightly to $21.7 million while online carried the growth, and the state’s tax collection fell by almost $7 million. Bettors were more engaged than ever and the books had almost nothing to show for it.
