Lazio end partnership with Polymarket after banning decision

Regulation

Lazio has reportedly ended its short-lived shirt sponsorship with Polymarket following the platform’s blacklisting in Italy.

Reports from Il Messaggero and La Lazio Siamo Noi indicate that the club has removed Polymarket’s logo both from its website and the shirts listed in its online store, suggesting that the contract has been terminated.

In April, the Biancocelesti had successfully secured a deal valued at approximately €22 million after not having a main sponsor for almost three years.

However, complications arose when Italian authorities blacklisted the New York-based company, leading to the removal of its website due to allegations of unauthorized betting services.

Though Polymarket maintains that it operates as a prediction market rather than a betting entity, Italian courts have not accepted this distinction.

Consequently, it’s no longer feasible for Lazio to feature the company’s name on its shirts. This sponsorship was expected to yield €19 million over the next two seasons, making the loss of the deal another significant setback for Claudio Lotito’s administration.

With a continuing fan boycott potentially costing the club up to €20 million in revenues, the situation raises questions about Lazio’s ability to secure a new sponsor.
