Illinois recently unveiled its June gambling figures, showing a hold of 12.42% from a handle of $1.14 billion, which remained nearly unchanged from May.

While this represents a decline, it also marks the highest June hold of any state in the nation by a considerable margin. For comparison, New York recorded a hold of 5.19%, Pennsylvania at 5.43%, and Arizona at 4.62%.

Despite the same tournament affecting the market, Illinois known for its parlay-heavy betting landscape managed to maintain a margin that many states would celebrate under normal circumstances. The state’s revenue reflects this performance.

In June, Illinois garnered $44.37 million, equating to an effective tax rate of 31.4% under its graduated tax system and per-wager fees. This figure surpasses the combined revenue collected by Colorado, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, Nevada, and Ohio from their July reports. In just one month, Illinois outperformed those six states together, showcasing the resilience of the financial structure crafted in Springfield, despite the challenges posed by the World Cup.
