Greek basketball federation chief arrested in match-fixing probe

The Greek basketball match-fixing investigation has uncovered another major cash sum, with €102,000 reportedly found at the home of a second referee involved in the case, according to Greek media.

The latest discovery comes just one day after authorities reportedly found €820,000 in cash at the home of another referee connected to the investigation.

The money was reportedly found during searches carried out as part of the ongoing investigation into alleged match manipulation and illegal betting in Greek basketball.

The identities  of the referees linked to the two cash discoveries have not been officially confirmed. The origin of the money also remains under investigation, and authorities have not publicly established a direct link between the cash and any manipulated games.

Another €8,000 in cash was reportedly seized from the home of Hellenic Basketball Federation (EOK) president Vangelis Liolios, bringing the total reported sum found across the three residences to €930,000.

A Greek police spokesperson said Thursday that a large amount of cash had been discovered across the homes of all six people arrested in the case and confirmed that the combined amount exceeded the figures previously reported publicly.
