Lottery winner claimed £2.5m jackpot ‘with a fake ticket’

Business News

Edward Putman claimed the prize in 2009 and has been under investigation for fraud since 2015.

The prosecution comes nine years after the National Lottery handed him the massive windfall in 2009.

The winning numbers – 6, 9, 20, 21, 31 and 34 – were drawn on March 11 and were said to have matched a ticket bought in Worcestershire worth £2.5million.

An investigation by the gambling watchdog found that the winnings were paid out after a ticket was produced which did not have a working bar code.

The Gambling Commission fined Camelot £3m for their handling of the payout.
