PointsBet debut Maryland retail sportsbook
Pointsbet Holdings has launched its 12th US sportsbook operation after taking its first retail bet through a subsidiary in Maryland.
It comes after online and sports retail betting was made legal in the state in May 2021.
One month later, PointsBet announced it had secured online and retail market access in the state through a partnership with a small business that runs off-track horse race betting called Riverboat on the Potomac.
PBH has already launched sportsbook operations in multiple locations across the US, including New Jersey, Iowa, Indiana, Illinois, Colorado, Michigan, West Virginia, Virginia, New York, Pennsylvania and, most recently Kansas, with the company taking its first online sportsbook bet in Kansas on September 1.
“We are thrilled to be live in Maryland ahead of the commencement of the NFL
season”, PointsBet US CEO Johnny Aitken said.
“The first bet was taken on the Buffalo Bills, and we look forward to showcasing our product to the passionate, sports-loving community of Maryland.”
The company expects it will launch its online betting operation in Maryland early in the third quarter of the 2023 financial year.
