German gambling regulator fines Red Rhino €50,000
The Joint Gaming Authority of the States (GGL) has imposed a fine of 50,000 euros on the gaming provider Red Rhino Limited because it continues to offer unauthorized online gambling in Germany despite an enforceable prohibition order.
The gambling offer was discontinued on the website platincasino.de, but not on the website of the same name with the domain ending “.com”. A high penalty payment was also imposed on a payment service provider that acted in connection with Red Rhino Limited.
With this approach, the GGL signals to the market that it is taking consistent action against unauthorized online gambling offers and is exhausting the administrative measures available to it. In principle, penalty payments can be repeated or increased until the prohibition order is complied with.
Board member Benjamin Schwanke: “The GGL’s measures are having an impact and we are seeing an increasing pushback on existing unauthorized online gambling offers.”
Fellow board member Ronald Benter adds: “This is accompanied by a channeling to legal offers. Consumers should make sure that they only use legal online gambling offers, as the strict legal player protection measures are supervised by the GGL.”
All permitted providers are listed on the official whitelist, which is available at www.gluecksspiel-behoerde.de. In order to make it even easier for consumers to recognize legal gambling offers on the Internet, the GGL provides the “GGL test and approval seal” to providers permitted and supervised by the authority.
