After more than four years, Alexander Pechtold is stepping down as Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Nederlandse Loterij.

Pechtold was recently reappointed for a second four-year term at the request of the Ministry of Finance, a shareholder of the Nederlandse Loterij. However, in light of his appointment as mayor of the municipality of Delft in September, Pechtold has decided to step down as Chairman and member of the Supervisory Board effective January 1, 2026.

Since April 2021, Alexander Pechtold, as Chairman of the Supervisory Board, has made a vital contribution to the further development of the Nederlandse Loterij. In addition to recruiting three new Supervisory Board members, he played a key role in shaping the Nederlandse Loterij’s new governance structure and appointing the CEO and three new board members.

Pechtold also contributed to positioning the Nederlandse Loterij as the most responsible gambling provider in the Dutch market, particularly with the launch of the online gambling market. Alexander Pechtold: “Since my appointment, I have greatly enjoyed serving as chairman. The Nederlandse Loterij is a wonderful company. With great brands, fantastic products, and colleagues who provide a responsible range of games of chance with great energy and passion.

I leave behind an organization that is ready for the future, with a clear positioning, an ambitious strategy, and enthusiastic and driven employees. I thank my fellow board members for the trust they have placed in me and have every confidence in the board and the management to continue to be successful in the future. I will remain fully involved until January 1, 2026, to ensure a smooth transition to a new chairman.”

Frida van den Maagdenberg, member of the Supervisory Board of the Nederlandse Loterij: “I deeply regret Alexander Pechtold’s departure. The board is grateful for the way he has fulfilled the role of chairman with integrity, using his skill, flair, and energy. The board therefore expresses its appreciation for Alexander’s efforts over the past four years. We will miss him!” Pechtold will remain chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Dutch Lottery until January 1, 2026. The board will search for a suitable successor.
