Lib Dems pledge higher tax on the gambling industry
UK political party the Liberal Democrats have passed bold new policy for gambling regulations.
Liberal Democrats will hold the gambling industry to account and put people before profits, so that gambling in the UK can be safe, fair, and free from harm.
Responding to the introduction of a statutory levy on gambling, Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for Culture, Media and Sport Max Wilkinson MP said:
“Problem gambling destroys far too many lives each year. It’s long past time that the gambling companies that profit from that misery pay their share.
“We called in our manifesto for the statutory levy to be implemented, and this move from the Government is welcome.
“But we must go further. That’s why we’re calling for the remote gaming duty to be doubled to 42%.
“These proposals are important steps in the right direction, but don’t go far enough. It is particularly disappointing that the Government has included nothing substantial to tackling the gambling adverts that bombard people through their TVs and radios.
